Armenia has long been considered one of the convenient entry points into the EAEU market for cars from North America. Since 2015 the country has been part of the Eurasian Economic Union, which means common customs rules apply here. Let's break down how importing a car from Canada to Armenia works in 2026: which rates apply, what EPTS and the environmental tax are, which documents you need, and how Canada Motor House helps with all of it. We quote vehicle prices "on request" and calculate payments individually.

1. Armenia in the EAEU: what it means for clearance

Armenia's EAEU membership means imported cars are subject to the union's common customs tariff (EAEU CCT), not some separate "Armenian" duties. The key takeaway for a buyer: once legally released into free circulation, the car can move across the entire customs territory of the union — important if you plan to use it beyond Armenia.

  • Common union rules and documents (CCT, EPTS).
  • Clearance through authorized Armenian customs bodies.
  • Ability to move the car further within the EAEU.

2. Flat rate for individuals vs commercial import

The calculation depends on whether you import the car for personal use or as a commercial batch. For individuals a combined customs payment applies at a flat rate that depends on engine displacement and vehicle age (EEC Decision No. 107). For legal entities and commercial import the scheme differs: EAEU CCT duty plus 20% VAT plus the environmental tax for cars older than 5 years and excise where applicable; each part is calculated separately.

  • Individual: flat rate by engine displacement and age.
  • Legal entity/commercial: EAEU CCT + 20% VAT + environmental tax (for cars older than 5 years) + excise where applicable.

The flat rate applies only to passenger cars. ATVs, snowmobiles and motorcycles are cleared by an individual through a combined customs payment: CCT duty plus 20% VAT in one sum. More in our articles on Can-Am ATVs, Harley-Davidson motorcycles and Ski-Doo snowmobiles.

3. EPTS, and the environmental tax instead of a recycling fee

After customs clearance an electronic vehicle passport (EPTS) is issued for the car — registration is impossible without it. The Armenian Tax Code has no recycling fee of the kind levied in Kazakhstan. Instead, imports of motor vehicles of headings 8702–8705 are subject to an environmental tax: it is calculated as a percentage of customs value and depends on the age of the car. In the official translation of the code the rates are 2% for cars 5 to 10 years old, 10% for 10 to 15 years and 20% for cars over 15 years; there is no line for cars under 5 years (Tax Code of RA, Art. 171). We check the current wording of the rates in every calculation. EPTS and this tax are what most often raise questions for first-time importers, so we handle them separately.

Here is a summary of the charges on a passenger car imported from Canada. Import VAT is 20% (Tax Code of RA, Art. 63).

We deliberately leave out a customs fee figure: there is no current official confirmation, and we will not publish outdated rates. The fee and excise are shown in the estimate for the specific car.

4. Documents for clearance

The document set for import from Canada usually includes the following.

  • Canadian title (proof of ownership) and bill of sale.
  • Invoice and proof of payment.
  • Bill of lading and shipping documents.
  • Recipient's passport, tax/registration details for a legal entity.

Errors in these papers are the most common cause of delays, so we check the package in advance.

5. Route and shipping cost

The car travels in a container by sea from Canada to a Georgian port — Poti or Batumi — and then by road through Georgia to Armenian customs. Timing and freight cost depend on the line, the port, the size of the car and how full the container is, so we quote them when a specific sailing is booked rather than as an averaged range. Every case is calculated individually.

6. The role of Canada Motor House

Canada Motor House sources the car or powersport unit in Canada, arranges export and delivery, prepares and checks documents against EAEU requirements, and supports EPTS paperwork and the environmental tax calculation. You get one transparent quote instead of a dozen scattered contractors.

Want the full cost for a specific car and engine size? Leave a request — we'll prepare an individual clearance calculation for Armenia and offer options on timelines and delivery. More about this destination on our cars from Canada to Armenia page.

Rates are current as of October 2026 and may change. The final calculation is made on the date of customs clearance.
